Inside Our Hurricane Ida Recovery: What Three Years of Restore LA Work
Taught Us

From first tarp to final walkthrough — how disaster recovery actually works on the ground, and what homeowners should expect when a federal program is involved.

When Hurricane Ida made landfall in August 2021, our crews were already staging equipment before the winds died down. Nearly two decades of Gulf Coast disaster response  going back to Hurricane Katrina — taught us one thing: the first 72 hours determine everything that follows.

Phase one: stabilize before you assess

The instinct after a storm is to start listing damage. We do the opposite first — tarping roofs, extracting standing water, and shutting off compromised utilities. Every day a structure sits exposed multiplies the remediation cost.

Field note — Mold growth can begin within 24–48 hours of water exposure in Louisiana’s humidity. Speed in phase one is not optional.

Phase two: gutting and documentation

Once the structure is stable, our IICRC-certified team removes compromised materials while documenting everything for insurance and federal program review. This is where most delays happen.

Phase three: full reconstruction

The final phase is where our Construction Division takes over — rebuilding to current code, often with FORTIFIED roofing upgrades. It is slower than people expect, but it is where a recovery project becomes a home again.
